The City-Business Climate Alliance

No single sector can solve the climate crisis alone.

Cities cannot meet their climate targets alone. In many cases, the majority of emissions within a local government boundary are generated by activities that they do not directly control: buildings owned and operated by the private sector, freight and logistics, industrial processes, and the energy choices of thousands of individual businesses. Delivering on climate commitments therefore depends on the quality of the relationship between city government and the business community. For the 14,000+ cities and local governments committed to the GCoM alliance, the 96 cities part of C40, and the businesses that call them home, this makes climate and energy action a socioeconomic opportunity.

The CBCA enables collaboration at speed and scale

CBCA advances climate action by facilitating collaboration between cities and businesses. CBCA helps cities understand how to use their formal powers (like regulations and standards) and informal powers (like convening and influence) to work effectively with the private sector.

Through peer learning, practical guidance and direct support for building effective business partnerships, the CBCA programme enables cities to achieve more emission reductions and growth in the green economy than either sector could accomplish alone.
